According to the UN Secretary General, the organization’s top priority is resolving all of Afghanistan’s problems.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, December 12th, the day after the two-day meeting in Doha, Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, gave his assessment of the meeting, which took place behind closed doors and lasted two days.
The considerable presence of terrorist organisations in Afghanistan, the absence of an inclusive administration, the degradation of women’s conditions, the humanitarian crisis, and drug trafficking were listed by Mr. Guterres as the country’s top difficulties.
The UN Secretary General emphasised the need for the international community to have a coordinated and coordinated approach to resolving the issues in Afghanistan, claiming that prioritising one issue over another is not the fundamental issue.
The UN, according to Mr. Guterres, gives the Afghan people first priority and will implement all of its efforts in that vein.
Additionally, Guterres stated that UNAMA will continue operating independently in Afghanistan with regard to its operations in Kabul.
In the course of his remarks, he stressed the importance of maintaining ties between this organisation and the Islamic Emirate in order to address Afghanistan’s problems, but he insisted that this is not the appropriate time to do so.
The UN will shortly conduct another meeting on Afghanistan, Mr. Guterres said in response to a query from the media regarding the organization’s upcoming initiatives.
It should be mentioned that the Doha summit, which was sponsored by the UN Secretary General and attended by representatives of more than 20 nations and international organisations with an interest in Afghanistan, took place on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
