China is prepared to engage with Pakistan and step up communication and collaboration on the Afghan problem to promote the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang suggested during a meeting with Pakistani President Arif Alvi on Saturday in Islamabad that coordination efforts for the reconstruction of Afghanistan be accelerated.
TASS reported the minister as saying, “China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Pakistan on the Afghan issue and to jointly contribute to the process of peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan.”
Through Qin Gang, who said that China and Pakistan are strategic friends that support comprehensive cooperation in every situation, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent wishes to Arif Alvi.
Since May 5, China’s foreign minister Ganq has been in Pakistan for two days to take part in trilateral discussions over Afghanistan.
Today, May 6, a trilateral summit between China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan will take place.
Engaging Afghanistan in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be one of the meeting’s most important objectives.
According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the interim foreign minister for Afghanistan, arrived in Pakistan on May 5 and will remain there till May 8.
The fifth China-Pakistan-Afghanistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue will take place on May 6 in addition to the acting Afghan foreign minister attending bilateral discussions.
The discussion will concentrate on improving the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
