Hashmat Ghani, the brother of Ashraf Ghani, claimed in a tweet that Latifi was detained on false allegations of drinking alcohol after he left his house.

Friends and family have been unable to contact him since his imprisonment, according to Amu TV, an association of Afghan journalists headquartered in the United States.

Since their return to power in August 2021, the Taliban have threatened, imprisoned, and subjected numerous local and foreign journalists in Kabul and other regions of Afghanistan to torture.

To avoid being detained by the Taliban organization, media and journalists in Afghanistan must closely adhere to the stringent regulations imposed by the de facto government. Nearly half of one media agency has closed due to constraints and financial difficulties, while other agencies have emerged in Afghanistan.

Media and journalists have received repeated warnings to refrain from speaking out against Taliban militants and criticising the current government.
