- Imran Khan accuses the PML-N of menacing SC and CJP once more.
- He requests that attorneys lead once more, as they did in 2007.
- Who hurled sneakers at the “judges’ photos”? Maryam enquires.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision in a case involving the postponement of the upcoming elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Maryam Nawaz, the senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), exchanged accusations on Twitter that the other party had attacked the judiciary.
Earlier, the government’s plea for the SC to convene a full court to hear the PTI’s case challenging the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan to push back polls for the Punjab Assembly until October 8 was denied by a three-member SC panel.
The removed prime minister, who was removed from office by a no-confidence vote in April of last year, launched a new attack on PML-N on Twitter, writing: “Today PMLN is again threatening SC & CJP because they are petrified of elections. As PMLN did in 1997 by storming SC to attack CJ Sajjad Ali Shah hearing a contempt petition against Nawaz Sharif.”
For the sake of democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law, he encouraged the populace to be prepared to take to the streets if necessary.
We will speak with all political groups that are willing to oppose this plot, he continued.
In addition, Khan urged the legal profession to once more assume the initiative, as they did during the 2007 Lawyers Movement, in order to defend “Pakistan’s Constitution and the rule of law.”
After Khan was labelled as a “constitution breaker,” Maryam Nawaz of the PML-N responded angrily to his tweet by inquiring as to who had thrown shoes on the “photos of judges.” She enquired as to who had positioned vehicles in front of the courts.
She continued, “The marks your facilitators have left on themselves will follow them and you.”
