A significant development is the decision by longtime allies Pakistan and China to increase their collaboration in weather science and technology.
The event took place last week in Beijing during a gathering of weather officials and specialists from China and Pakistan.
According to China Economic Net (CEN), both parties reviewed their collaboration in the area of meteorological science and technology and held consultations on issues like early warning support systems, practical capacity development, and training.
Zhang Zuqiang, the deputy administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), stated during the conference that Beijing is looking forward to working with Pakistan to advance the development of cloud-based early warning systems.
Mahr Sahibzad Khan, Director General of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Pakistan’s permanent representative to the World Meteorological Organization, stated that Pakistan would “continue to support CMA in international meteorological governance.” (WMO). “Pakistan is grateful for CMA’s technical support when Pakistan was hit by severe floods last year.”
Mahr Sahibzad Khan and the Pakistani team also paid visits to pertinent CMA organisations to learn more about the development of Pakistan’s cloud-based early warning support system and to talk about plans specifically tailored to Pakistan. In terms of monitoring, forecasting, hydrology, communication, study, and training, he said, “PMD and CMA will strengthen cooperation.”
