After scoring three goals in the opening period of Tuesday’s international exhibition against Curacao, Lionel Messi has now scored 100 goals for Argentina.
In the 20th minute, Messi, 35, scored his 100th goal against the Caribbean squad with a right-footed shot from the perimeter of the area.
With a crossed effort to the right of the goalie, he scored his 100th and 102nd goals for Argentina, respectively. At halfway, Argentina had a 5-0 advantage over Curacao, with goals from Nico Gonzalez and Enzo Fernandez.
On the list of players with the most goals scored for national teams in formal matches, the Argentine skipper is only two goals behind Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal (122 goals) and Ali Daei of Iran (109 goals).
Argentina is playing in its second exhibition match since taking home the World Cup trophy in December in Santiago del Estero. Last week, Messi’s side defeated Panama 2-0 in Buenos Aires.
