Pakistani police arrested Afghan Jiu-Jitsu Champion Arezo Ahmadi on Tuesday in Islamabad, who freshly defeated her opponents in a Jiu-Jitsu contest held in Karachi on Sunday, and won a “gold medal”.

Arezo Ahmadi represented Afghanistan at the 7th International Jiu-Jitsu Checkmate Competition on Sunday, June 4 in Karachi, Pakistan.

Jiu-Jitsu athletes from four countries which includes the United States, Canada, Pakistan and Afghanistan competed in the event, in which Arezo Ahmadi dominated her three competitors and won a gold medal.

Afghan Jiu-Jitsu Champion Arezo Ahmadi sent a message to the media, stating that on Tuesday, June 6, the Pakistani police detained her while she was returning from Karachi to Islamabad, despite her possession of a “UNHCR” immigration card (token).

Ahmadi submitted this message and stated to be in police detention for more than five hours for unexplained reasons. The Islamabad police also detained Arezo Ahmadi’s friends at the same time.

Since the violent strikes on May 9, Islamabad police took extra measures to detain those folks who took part in the violent protests and caused serious damages to police vehicles and civilian property.

It is important to note that over the past few days, police in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other major Pakistani cities have detained hundreds of Afghan refugees for failing to produce valid visas and stay permits.
