According to Shahid Afridi, Pakistan should travel to India to compete in the World Cup because it will spread a good message throughout the cricketing community.
The hosting location for the Asia Cup has been a point of contention between the PCB and BCCI. This year’s event is to be held in Pakistan, however the BCCI refused to let the Indian team travel there because of security concerns.
The PCB then presented the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) with a “hybrid model” for the Asia Cup 2023, in which Pakistan would host its matches while India would host its matches in a neutral location.
Sethi most recently made it clear in an interview with Indian media that Pakistan will not play World Cup matches in India if India chooses not to play Asia Cup matches in Pakistan.
Afridi said, though, that Pakistan should host India’s Asia Cup games. “Pakistan’s World Cup team should visit India. This would demonstrate Pakistan’s support for cricket, he remarked, according to Cricket Pakistan.
“Pakistan should host the Asia Cup. I believe that politics and cricket should be kept apart,” he stated. With reference to the decision about the Asia Cup, he continued, “There shouldn’t be any more delay.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have disagreed on whether or not both sides should compete in the forthcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. Wahab Riaz has also advocated for a peaceful resolution between the two organisations.
