A day after his release, Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, called for widespread protests and instructed his followers to begin where they are.
Anti-corruption authorities in Islamabad detained Mr. Khan on Tuesday of last week; he was freed on bail for two weeks on Friday.
After his release, on Saturday, he released a statement in which he urged his followers to join him in the streets on Sunday, May 14, and initiate protests there because, according to him, “Freedom is not simply attained.” To get it, you must make sacrifices.
There were no reports of demonstrations starting in Pakistan in the early hours of Sunday.
The former Pakistani prime minister said Wednesday that he will begin his push for early elections this week. He has previously called for them.
