On the night of the election, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan said that Abu Hossein al-Qurashi, one of ISIS’s commanders, had been slain in Syria.
The killing of an ISIS senior in Syria was announced by Mr. Erdoan in a televised programme on Sunday, April 30, according to Turkish media.
According to the President of Turkey, who was speaking to Anatolia news agency, the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) had been pursuing the ISIS leader—who went by the identity “Abu Hossein Al-Qurashi”—for a considerable amount of time.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan continues to assert that Turkey was keeping an eye on him and that he was murdered on Saturday during an operation.
There are no other information on Abul Hussain al-Qorashi’s death, and ISIS has not yet released a statement.
Al-Qorashi will be the fourth ISIS commander slain by the US and its partners in recent years, including the organization’s founder Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, if what Turkey alleges is verified.
The ISIS organisation has a significant presence in Syria and has taken significant hits over the last two years as a result of international operations involving the United States of America.
A suspected attempt to kill the ISIS commander may have taken place in the northern Syrian city of Jendris, according to Reuters, which cited local sources. It should be emphasised that the Syrian National Army has not yet verified the death of the ISIS leader.
Additionally, Reuters reported that the clashes between the two sides on the outskirts of Jendris on Saturday and Sunday began last night and lasted for about an hour before the residents heard a large explosion.
It should be noted that in November 2022, after its former head was killed during an operation in southern Syria, ISIS named Al-Qorashi as its new leader.
Recep Tayyip Erdoan reportedly dethroned the ISIS commander in Syria who was about to be re-elected but had been absent from the election campaign for the previous several days due to sickness.
