On Sunday, the chief of staff of the Pakistani army, General Asim Munir, and the acting foreign minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, met to talk about regional security and the plight of Afghan refugees living in Pakistan.

The meeting was covered in the following tweet from Hafiz Zia Ahmad, the deputy spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “During the meeting, issues of regional security, facilitating the movement of people, and the situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan were discussed between the two countries.”

General Asim Munir reaffirmed that both nations will work together to “effectively” confront the problems of terrorism and extremism.

Both parties also discussed another crucial matter involving Afghan refugees in Pakistan. Since decades, Pakistan has been home to millions of Afghan refugees, who are now concerned for their safety and security due to the recent upheaval there.

Other subjects considered were controlling borders, formalising bilateral security agreements to boost security, and regional security.

The Army Chief, on the other hand, underlined Pakistan’s dedication to an Afghanistan that is secure, peaceful, and wealthy.

On Saturday night in Islamabad, the acting foreign minister, Muttaqi, also met with a number of elders and political figures in Pakistan to discuss issues of common interest.
