KARACHI: Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s “martyrdom anniversary” will be observed as a public holiday by the Sindh administration, according to a notice released on Thursday.

According to a notification, “The Government of Sindh declares April 4, 2023 (Tuesday) as a Public Holiday on the occasion of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s (Ex-Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan) 44th Martyrdom Anniversary, throughout the Province of Sindh.”

All offices, autonomous, semi-autonomous organizations, corporations, and local councils that are under the administrative authority of the province government of Sindh will stay closed, with the exception of necessary services, in accordance with the notice.

Bhutto, who was born on January 5th, 1928, was an accomplished leader who, on November 30th, 1967, founded the Pakistan People’s Party, which is now run by his maternal grandchild, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

On April 4, 1979, nearly two years after General Ziaul Haq implemented martial law and toppled his government, Bhutto was executed by hanging following a contentious trial.

His killing was classified as “judicial murder” by PPP.
