In the Laghman region of Eastern Afghanistan, a tragic incident occurred on Friday when the roof of a family’s home collapsed, resulting in the death of seven family members, including two children.
Qari Khair Mohammad Ghazi, the provincial director for natural disaster management and humanitarian affairs in Laghman province, reported the incident that happened in the Alishing area at 2:00 a.m. local time on Friday. While five children and their parents were among the deceased, one eight-year-old girl is still in serious condition.
In the previous two weeks, natural catastrophes have severely affected several Afghan regions. The Takhar region witnessed a flash flood on Wednesday, which resulted in one death and over 20 people injured.
In addition, over 100 injuries and 21 fatalities occurred in all 30 provinces of the country due to earthquakes, floods, torrential rain, avalanches, and landslides. The mountainous terrain of Afghanistan increases the frequency and severity of these calamities. Apart from causing loss of life, the recent natural calamities in Afghanistan have also caused significant financial damage to the population.
The severe rains and flash floods have resulted in the loss of hundreds of animals, more than 2625 homes, and around 30,000 acres of agricultural land. The impact of these calamities on the already struggling economy of Afghanistan is immense.
